Modest Beginnings

The day after Aurum’s mother learned she was pregnant with her, the Mining Guild discovered a rich deposit of gold and precious minerals beneath the Windstorm’s family farm. Her parents quickly sold their lot and moved to the nearest city of Limsa Lominsa to begin a new life.

When their only daughter came into the world, they doted upon her. Aurum never longed for much and lived a relatively charmed life growing up; her mother showering her with affection and her father doing his best to teach her the ways of “business” despite being new to the game himself.

Luck of the Maelstrom

During her rebellious years, Aurum signed on with the Maelstrom as Storm Private to make a name for herself. After a few voyages, Captains and sailors alike began to notice things going uncharacteristically well for the crew. The winds always seemed to blow in favorable directions, keeping the sails full and their arrival ahead of schedule. Aurum’s propensity for wearing gold jewelry sparked talk of her being a bit of a good luck charm, jokingly at first, but with each voyage, the rumors seemed to self-perpetuate. Sailors are a superstitious type, after all, and Aurum didn’t see the need to correct them. As her fame grew, Captains began to request her on specifically dangerous voyages or when they were carrying unlucky cargo, such as bananas. Why are bananas considered unlucky? You’d have to ask the sailors.

Business Minded

Far be it for Aurum to waste a perfectly good business opportunity. Captains wanted her aboard? They’d have to pay up. After completing her mandatory tours, she left the Maelstrom and then enlisted once more as a contractor of sorts. Her obligations? Aside from bringing her fabled luck along for the voyage, not much, really. She insists on having her own private quarters, where she spends most of her time, but can often be found amongst the crew, raising their morale.

It was during her interactions with her compatriots that she often heard them complaining of chapped lips and chafed skin from the countless bells spent toiling in the sun and ocean mists. Driven to help, she set to work formulating various tinctures and concoctions to aid her fellow sailors. Her lip balms and moisturizing lotions quickly became a hit that a following of Maelstrom sailors began to swear by, calling themselves the Suave Sailors. They began to submit requests for additional products that Aurum was more than happy to develop, including hair styling gels that allowed her followers to look fabulous despite the harsh conditions in which they served.

A Higher Education

The more time Aurum spent away from home the more her father insisted upon her taking self-defense courses. Thus, our heroine was sent to an adventuring academy in the Goblet section of Ul’dah. She attended classes, learned to wield the lance, and networked to the best of her abilities. When a number of concerning circumstances gave her a convenient excuse to consider herself “graduated”, she returned to her home of Limsa to continue expanding her business empire with a relaunch of her World by Windstorm brand.
